Welcome to the Broughton Power bouldering wall

It's 2013 and against all odds Broughton Power, the bouldering wall and climbing training facilities at Fit City Broughton Recreation Centre, Salford still continues to be the best bouldering and climbing training venue in Greater Manchester. Defying the steady march of housing development, this little corner of inner city Salford is just what you need to whip your fingers into shape. Broughton Power features "Arguably the best bouldering wall in England" a unique 18 meter, moulded Bendcrete boundering wall, heavily featured with real stone insets and a variety of angles: it's the closest you'll get to bouldering outdoors, indoors. Constructed in 1991 over 1000 problems have been documented in the bouldering/training guide at a variety of grades (4b-7a) with more being discovered all the time.
Yes. You can go and drink lattes at MCC and look at the Czech girls. Yes. You could shiver on slopers in Stockport. God forbid, you could even head East and make those Climbing Works boys even richer. But you know where you should be. So what are you waiting for? Download Nick's very latest problem list and get ticking.

NEWS FLASH!

Freestanding Boulder News!!

Nearly a year ago (2010) the centre agreed to the dismantling of the freestanding boulder and re-situating of the panels against the opposite wall to the bendcrete wall. There was much excitement about this potential addition as it will make the facilities much more complete. However the progress of this ideal has been as slow as the hills. Currently the freestanding boulder has been dismantled and stacked against the wall. But this last progress was over 5 months ago

PLEASE ask about the progress when you visit the centre as hopefully this interest will spur some activity which is sadly lacking in this department.

...less new news:

A pocket frenzy is in full effect on the cellar board... Dave's carpentry skills are producing a family of tweaky little fellows, which are much needed on the board. Only a few more undercuts and gaston's needed to complete a quality training facility.

The campus board has new (proper bo) rungs.

The 45 board has been "De-Jugged" and all the larger footholds removed. Don't despair though! The jugs have been replaced by a selection of minging crimps and the new footholds are barely adequate. This partial reset will render the current (small) collection of problems redundant. A new book will be placed when the reset is complete for recording problems.

PS. These pages are open to all for editing, just click EasyEdit in the left hand corner and get going. Just don't delete that problem sheet...

Anonymous new wall? 14 Jan 21 2010, 5:22 AM EST by Anonymous

Thread started: May 7 2009, 9:09 AM EDT  Watch
have been wanting to do this for a long time and i feel that broughton needs it.
where the current (defunct) systems board is, i would like to replace this with a roof area spanning the entire space inbetween the columns.
the roof could be of differing angles and heights, or simply be akin to demon wall roof. it would be no higher than the current woodie.

what do people think? i've been trying to source free wood from the bbc's in sheff but graeme has told me that the wood is not bmc's to give away. but holds i can get some of to start it up.

i shall put up a for/against up at the wall soon as i'm not getting every worshipper to broughton on here.

let me know your views here tho in the mean time

love
